Cape Town – Gauteng residents have been urged to brace for icy temperatures and take safety precautions as a cold front sweeps across the province.
Johannesburg is forecast to hit 0°C, Pretoria 2°C, and Vereeniging has already dropped to -2°C.
“Below freezing temperatures are expected in most parts of the city of Johannesburg, due to the arrival of a cold front. Residents are urged to exercise caution while using any heating devices, things like heaters, paraffin stoves, braziers or imbaula, not to leave them unattended, so that we can be able to prevent fire incidents which might occur during these extremely cold temperatures,” Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said on Thursday night.

Johannesburg Emergency Services remain on high alert across all regions, and residents are advised to report emergencies via 011 375 5911.
