Cape Town – Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president Floyd Shivambu made headlines this week after a fiery social media exchange with popular radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo.
The clash erupted after Shivambu — now aligned with the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party — called for a “national consultation” on political strategy.
Framing his message with revolutionary language, Shivambu likened civic mobilisation to making “the apple fall”, invoking images of radical action and transformation.

Shivambu, whose political trajectory has included a demotion within the MK party and a high-profile press briefing upon his return from Malawi, stressed the importance of grassroots involvement.
“These numbers come from the last hour!” he declared, as he announced plans to recruit volunteers in Gauteng for a data-driven campaign. He ended his post with a defiant rallying cry: “No surrender! No retreat! Mayibuye iAfrika!”

But his bold call to action was quickly met with backlash.
Dhlomo, known for his outspoken views and sharp commentary, responded on X (formerly Twitter) with a blunt critique: “You lack execution. Lie low for like two months or something, then come back and say you’ve consulted.”
Shivambu fired back, saying, “I humbly think you have an over-exaggerated view of yourself… focus [on] what you do,” before ultimately blocking Dhlomo.

Unfazed, Dhlomo doubled down. “Or what?” he quipped in response to the block, later resurfacing old tweets to remind followers that this wasn’t their first online spat.
