Johannesburg – Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has survived his first motion of no confidence, winning the vote by 144 to 75.
Despite criticism of his leadership, support from smaller parties and members of the Government of Local Unity (GLU) helped him retain his position.

ActionSA, a key ANC ally in Gauteng, abstained, saying they refused to defend a poor track record marred by governance failures. Their stance drew backlash, with the UDM accusing them of enabling instability.
The GOOD Party supported Morero conditionally, warning him to improve leadership, reform his executive, and root out corruption within the GLU.
Meanwhile, the DA dismissed rumours that former mayor Kabelo Gwamanda would return if Morero lost, calling the situation a sign that political leaders are prioritising positions over service delivery.
