Cape Town – Veteran public relations executive Richard Edward Foxton, spouse of former public protector Thuli Madonsela, has died at the age of 82.
Known affectionately as “Dick” or “Mr Foxton”, he passed away peacefully in bed, according to a statement from the Thuli Madonsela Foundation.
Foxton was the founder of Foxton Communicating and a founding patron of the Foundation.
“Foxton was a trailblazer in the communications industry, having founded Foxton, a firm that set new standards in the sector, not only for its innovation but also for its deep commitment to ethical, transparent and effective communication,” the statement read.
He was remembered as a loving family man, a devout Christian, and a respected figure in South Africa’s business and political spheres.

“His life partner, former public protector, professor Thuli Madonsela, was his steadfast companion in personal and professional matters, and together, they were a symbol of mutual respect, love and integrity.
“Foxton’s impact on South Africa’s business and political landscape, his commitment to social change and his deep love for his family and faith will not be forgotten. His warmth, kindness, huge personality and boundless generosity touched the lives of many, and his contributions will continue to resonate for years to come.
“His passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his influence will live on in the lives he touched and the work he pioneered.”
He leaves behind children and nine grandchildren.
His life with Madonsela was described as one of mutual respect and shared commitment to social justice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at Rosebank Catholic Church, followed by a celebration of his life at the Bryanston Country Club.
