Johannesburg – South Africa’s iconic beer brand, Castle Lager, is celebrating 130 years of brewing heritage — and it’s doing so the Mzansi way: around the braai.
As part of its milestone anniversary, Castle Lager has partnered with national retailer Big Save to host the World’s Biggest Braai on 24 September, Heritage Day, uniting thousands of South Africans in a shared moment of flavour, festivity and national pride.
“Castle Lager has always been about bringing people together, and nothing says unity like good food, great friends and a cold INQAAABA in hand,” the brand said in a statement.

The large-scale celebration aims to bring communities from all walks of life together at various braai spots across the country, turning Heritage Day into a nationwide toast to Castle Lager’s 130-year journey.
Launched in 1895, Castle Lager has become a cornerstone of South African social life, proudly carrying the tagline of togetherness through generations.
Now, with the partnership with Big Save, the brand is taking that message to the next level — inviting the entire nation to raise a glass in unison.
“In a campaign that blends culture and community, Castle Lager has used its innovative Grillboard – a billboard with a built-in braai – to launch a street-level activation invitation that’s sparking conversations, media buzz and real-world impact,” says Castle Lager brand director Thomas Lawrence.
