Cape Town – Recently dismissed as secretary-general of the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, Floyd Shivambu, has pledged to remain in the party despite internal tensions and speculation about forming a new political movement.
“I have not resigned from uMkhonto weSizwe, and I will never resign from uMkhonto weSizwe,” Shivambu said during a press briefing on Thursday.
His removal followed a controversial visit to Malawi to see fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri and unproven allegations that he was plotting to oust Zuma and gain “supernatural powers”.
Shivambu dismissed the accusations as fake and bizarre intelligence fabrications.

He alleged that Zuma is surrounded by corrupt individuals misusing party funds — claiming R7 million is siphoned off monthly — and said the treasurer-general was forced out to enable this looting.
Shivambu ruled out returning to the EFF or joining the ANC, calling them a “cult” and “directionless”, respectively.
While not launching a new party yet, he plans to consult widely before making any decisions.
It would be “a process that is going to speak to the people of South Africa… We will be going to the ground to speak to the people of South Africa”.
Shivambu stressed that political parties must not be family-run, tribal, or formed for personal enrichment.
