Johannesburg – DA MP Liam Jacobs has quit the party to join the Patriotic Alliance (PA), which announced his move on social media.
Although Jacobs hasn’t submitted a formal resignation, the DA confirmed his membership has automatically ceased under party rules. The DA wished him well in his future endeavours.
“The Democratic Alliance has learned of the fact that Mr Liam Jacobs has joined the Patriotic Alliance,” said the party.

“We have not received any formal resignation letter yet. But in terms of the constitution of the DA, it is an automatic cessation of your DA membership should you join a different party. The DA wishes Liam Jacobs all the best with his future endeavours.”
At 24, Jacobs rose through the DA’s student ranks and entered Parliament after the 2024 elections.

Known for his bold presence in parliamentary subcommittees, he recently clashed with PA leader Gayton McKenzie, who criticised the DA for sidelining coloured leaders despite their voter support.
