Cape Town – An increasing number of Afrikaners are reportedly relocating from South Africa to the United States under the Afrikaner resettlement programme initiated by President Donald Trump, The Citizen reported on Sunday.
Quoting News24, the report said that the US embassy in Pretoria confirmed that it is processing inquiries and refugee interviews for interested South Africans.
Some Afrikaners have already arrived in the US on commercial and chartered flights.
This development follows strained relations between the US and South Africa, partly due to Trump-era claims of a “white genocide” and South Africa’s Expropriation Bill.
A charter flight last month carried 49 Afrikaners granted refugee status, welcomed by US officials citing racial discrimination in South Africa.
The US government, under its “America First” agenda, framed the move as support for victims of racial injustice.
Meanwhile, the South African government has rejected claims of genocide or violence against white farmers and questioned the validity of the refugee claims.
