Cape Town – As a cold front approaches Gauteng, Johannesburg Emergency Services is on high alert to respond to possible emergencies caused by the expected temperature drop starting Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
Forecasts predict Johannesburg will experience lows of 2°C and highs of 13°C, while Pretoria will see temperatures between 4°C and 15°C.
Residents are urged to prepare for the cold and use heating devices such as heaters, braziers, paraffin stoves, and candles safely to avoid fire hazards.
Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi warned against leaving heating devices unattended and stressed the dangers of illegal electricity connections.
All 29 fire stations and monitoring teams across Johannesburg’s seven regions will be on standby.
