Cape Town – Two suspects involved in cash-in-transit (CIT) heists and murder were killed in a shootout with police in Boksburg, Gauteng.
A Hawks tactical team and SAPS officers from KwaZulu-Natal had tracked the suspects to a house in the area.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni confirmed that the suspects were linked to multiple CIT robberies in both KZN and Gauteng, including a 2 May incident where a G4S vehicle was bombed and a security guard was killed.
Advanced technology helped officers trace the suspects across provinces.
“What transpired is that the team from KwaZulu-Natal, a multidisciplinary team, was following information on the cash-in-transit heist on the 2nd of May this year, where a G4S security vehicle was bombed and ultimately a security guard was shot and killed, and then, thanks to the technology we’re using, they followed that information systemically up until it led them to Gauteng,” said Mthombeni.
