Trump previously warned he would boycott the upcoming G20 Summit in South Africa unless the alleged violence against white farmers is addressed.
“When the President (referring to Cyril Ramaphosa) decides to visit the US, he will invite President Trump so that he can see our beautiful country,” Mashatile said.
“There’s no genocide here. We are beautiful, happy people. Black and White working, and living together,” he said with confidence, nodding his head.
“So I hope he will accept the invitation and come because I think he’s been lied to. There’s no genocide.”
He criticised South African leadership and media for allegedly ignoring these attacks and claimed white farmers are being murdered and dispossessed of land. His administration even granted asylum to 49 Afrikaners fleeing South Africa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has refuted Trump’s allegations, stating in a phone call that such claims are false and that he looks forward to meeting Trump to resolve tensions.
The U.S. is due to assume the G20 presidency from South Africa later this year, but some former Trump administration officials have already been boycotting meetings over these concerns.
