Cape Town – Eskom has announced Stage 2 load shedding from 4pm to 10pm daily, starting Tuesday until Thursday, due to limited generation capacity.
This follows the delayed return of units totaling 3,120MW and unexpected breakdowns causing a further 1,385MW loss.
“This decision follows the delayed return of generation units amounting to 3,120MW, as well as an additional loss of 1,385MW in the past 24 hours due to unplanned breakdowns,” Eskom said in a statement.
The utility is emerging from an intensive maintenance phase, making the grid more vulnerable to disruptions.

Eskom says load shedding is necessary to ensure continued supply during peak hours and notes that overall incidents have decreased compared to previous years.
CEO Dan Marokane acknowledged the challenges and said a recovery plan is in place as outlined in their Winter 2025 Outlook
“Our new Operational Excellence Programme is key to restoring performance. We are reinforcing oversight, strengthening accountability, and aligning service providers with stricter performance standards. This forms part of our broader drive for consistent improvement through Systems, People, and Processes,” Marokane said.
“We are determined to build on the progress already achieved. The delays in returning units are being addressed with urgency by senior leadership,” he said.
