Cape Town – Construction is progressing rapidly on the new R2 billion luxury resort, Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari, located on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, just 20 minutes from King Shaka International Airport.
It will be the first Club Med globally to combine both beach and safari experiences and host the first Club Med Surf School, Daily Investor reported.
The project, backed by South African investors under Tinley Leisure and partners like African Bank and the IDC, uses an innovative, multi-contractor construction model to ensure flexibility, accountability, and timely delivery, the report said.
Collins Residential, the development manager, split the build into seven key construction packages, currently employing over 1,400 workers, with a strong emphasis on local labour and community involvement.
Club Med’s debut in South Africa through its highly anticipated development in KwaZulu Natal, originally called Club Med Tinley, has been officially renamed Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari.

Major structures, including villas, hotels, and amenities like the Kids Club and Beach Club, are well underway.
Reservations will open in September 2025, ahead of the resort’s launch, with all construction aligned to a fixed delivery deadline.
According to BusinessTech, Collins Residential is behind several high-end coastal projects, having successfully developed premier estates such as Zululami Luxury Coastal Estate, Seaton, Lalela, and the Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village.
Project director Chris du Toit said the development highlights what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a unified vision.
“By combining global standards with local expertise, we are not only building a resort but also contributing to the region’s growth and development,” the report quoted him as saying.
