Cape Town – Three Free State police constables — Boipelo Senoge, Cebekhulu Linda, and Keamogetswe Buys — who died after their vehicle was recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, Gauteng, will be honoured with official police funerals.
According to SABC News, each constable will have a separate funeral service: Senoge on Thursday, Linda on Friday, and Buys on Saturday next week, with a joint memorial service scheduled for Tuesday.
“We agreed with the families to say that the funerals will be held over three days. The funeral of Constable Senoge will be on Thursday; the funeral of Constable Linda will be on Friday. The funeral of Constable Buys will be on Saturday because as the organisation, we are going to give them official police funerals,” the report quoted Free State Premier, Maqueen Joyce Letsoha-Mathae as saying.
Investigation
The cause of their deaths is under investigation, with police suspecting a vehicle accident.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and a forensic investigation into the vehicle is underway.
Meanwhile, police have opened a case of defeating the ends of justice against a Cape Town individual who falsely claimed on social media to have seen the missing white VW Polo associated with three deceased police constables.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe urged the public to act responsibly online, IOL reported.
Shortly after her remarks, police recovered the vehicle from the Hennops River near the N1, containing personal items.
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola stated the vehicle likely capsized before crashing into a barrier and that, pending forensic results, the incident appears to be accidental.
Autopsy findings are still underway, with no suspicion of foul play at this time.
