Pretoria – President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed seasoned business leader and former top government official Dr Alistair Ruiters as Special Advisor on Investment Promotion, the Presidency announced on Wednesday.
Dr Ruiters will advise the President on matters related to South Africa’s investment drive, which remains central to the 7th Administration’s strategy for inclusive economic growth and job creation.
“Government is implementing a broad range of economic reforms aimed at rendering South Africa more attractive and rewarding for domestic and international investors; advancing greater diversification of the economy, and broadening South Africa’s integration into continental and global supply chains,” the Presidency said in a statement.

A former Director-General of the Department of Trade and Industry, Dr Ruiters held the post for five years until April 2005, capping off 11 years of service in the department.
He previously served as a Commissioner of the Competition Commission and has had an extensive entrepreneurial career.
He has held leadership roles in major institutions, including the National Empowerment Fund, the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor project, and the Afarak Group.
Dr Ruiters holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University and a BA Honours from the University of Cape Town, among other academic qualifications.
His appointment comes as the government intensifies its efforts to boost investment, spur job creation, and foster long-term economic sustainability.
