Cape Town – South African artist, Mthandazo Gatya, got to experience what scores of singers wished for when they took part in the #OpenVerseChallenge on TikTok – performing with the world-renowned singer John Legend.
Gatya, who became famous when he added his African flair to the American singer’s song Nervous, had a huge career highlight when he performed with him live on stage.
A video of the South African singer performing with John Legend was shared by a number of social media users.
Gatya caught the attention and approval of the multi award winning singer when John Legend started the challenge on Tiktok allowing users to duet his song Nervous from his newly released Legend album.

Gatya gave the song an African touch, and displayed an outstanding spectacle of vocal ability.
He expressed his gratitude to Mzansi for their support and for making it happen for him.
“Thank you all for making sure John Legend sees my duet. Great news is that he loved it and replied, as to what will happen next, we can leave that to God, thank you from the bottom of my heart” Gatya said.
